Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.
Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison is located at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria in a purpose-built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards. The Aire unit provides bed-based care to male prisoners in the acute phase of mental illness.
About the Role:
The Psychologist works on the unit with mentally disordered patients/prisoners as a member of the multidisciplinary team. The Psychologist provides a full range of psychological services and advice on the management and treatment of patients with a recovery focus.
Duties:
- Provide an advanced range of psychological services including advice on the management and treatment of complex patient/prisoner issues to other clinicians.
- Provide specialist psychological, psychometric assessments and reports where necessary.
- Provide individual and/or group interventions as appropriate.
- Demonstrate sound communication skills in recording and reporting clinical information to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
- A good understanding of the current psychological approaches in working with mentally disordered male patients in the forensic mental health setting
- Skills in clinical assessment, including the administration and interpretation of psychological tests designed to assess personality, psychopathology, intelligence and cognitive functioning.
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) or the equivalent, or, a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology accredited by APAC or the equivalent
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential.
