The Project
Southern Program Alliance based on the Frankston line is one of five alliances responsible for removing 110 of Melbourne’s most dangerous and congested level crossings by 2025 as part of Victoria’s Big Build transport infrastructure program.

The Opportunity:
Great development opportunity for a passionate, enthusiastic qualified Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their skills further within the rail and civil infrastructure space. You will establish and manage the cost planning in design including but not limited to Preliminary Design, Detailed Design, Final Design, and Issued for Construction. The Quantity Surveyor will support the Project Manager and the delivery team in cost planning in delivery, requiring an understanding of quantification and costing skills and be able to identify risks and opportunity is a key outcome of the cost planning procedure and requires skill in communicating this to the wider design, engineering, and construction teams.
Responsibilities:

  • Managing the process and procedure of cost planning, using the master cost planning documents.
  • Quantity take-off at every design stage to compare with quantities from the tender submission.
  • Early identification of risk and opportunities during the development of the project design.
  • Support the procurement team to understand the best options for the project.
  • Clear and concise reporting to the project team including timely input to monthly cost forecasting.
  • Reduction in construction costs due to informed design decisions.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Business, Commerce or Accounting.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction engineering industry
  • Proven experience working within a large project environment and/or an appropriately large organization (highly desirable)
  • Comprehensive understanding of standard method measurements, for a range of disciples including but not limited to- Civil, Structures, Rail etc.
  • Knowledge of 3D and 5D tools and processes for efficient cost planning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate Cost Planning information to various other teams.
  • Fluent in the Microsoft Office suite of desktop applications and related software packages, with proficiency in Excel a must.
