PRIMARY FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION We are looking for someone to join our team with a strong background in agriculture and/or horticulture. The primary functions of the position are: Provide extension services to Tasmanian farmers with an initial focus on vegetable growers Focus on research to practice and facilitation of technology transfer Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders in Tasmania and nationally as required The work that you will undertake will include: Coordination and communication of R&D findings, new ag technologies, and training opportunities Structure and clearly communicate findings, insights, and recommendations Facilitate producer group meetings e.g. farm walks and workshops Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and projects Set up and oversee farm demonstration sites as required Data collection and analysis Attend required meetings and training programs Travel locally and interstate KEY SELECTION CRITERIA We are seeking a candidate with 5-plus years of professional experience who can demonstrate: Knowledge of farming systems and management options A basic understanding of all aspects of farm management and biosecurity Capacity to collect and analyse data relating to farm management practices Understanding of agricultural and environmental policies/guidelines and management Demonstrated experience in community consultation and engagement Demonstrated skills in rural extension Demonstrated ability to build networks QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS This position requires at least 5 years’ experience in agriculture extension (preferably in Tasmania) and a degree in Agriculture or Horticulture, and/or a related science. GENERAL CRITERIA Prescribed performance criteria (as per RMCG EBA 2021) – LEVEL 2 CONSULTANT Undertake and complete tasks under the guidance of a project manager or supervisor Complete tasks according to client needs Complete projects on time and on budget Continue to develop technical expertise and undertake tasks in line with your position description Assist with the preparation of bids for potential jobs in accordance with technical skills. Personal Self-motivated and a good attitude to work Questioning mind/problem solving ability Demonstrated high academic and/or work achievement Strong communication and interpersonal skills Capacity to work independently and within a team Value a balanced approach to work, community and family. SALARY AND CONDITIONS The remuneration package for the position will be negotiated with the preferred applicant, however, is expected to be in the range of $80,000 – $90,000 (FTE plus 11.5% superannuation).
