AFP Intelligence Operations is one of many functions supporting the broad remit of the AFP. It is integral to AFP criminal investigations; in Australia and abroad. Intelligence Officers work within intelligence teams in close partnership with investigators to achieve tangible outcomes against Australian and international criminal threats.

AFP Intelligence Operations is seeking individuals who are self-directed and have the flexibility and resilience to thrive in a dynamic and at times high tempo working environment. Intelligence Officers will work in a team, using critical thinking and analytical ability to mitigate threats. Intelligence Officers will contribute to AFP investigations by working with others to provide a consolidated picture of transnational serious organised crime and national security threats, identifying priorities, and informing decision making.

What will you do?

The successful candidate will be part of a team of intelligence professionals who support complex criminal investigations and AFP corporate objectives. They will apply contemporary analytical tools and techniques to produce actionable intelligence. The successful candidate will demonstrate they are capable of performing in a cooperative and collaborative environment; one that is responsive and flexible in meeting the objectives of the team.

Intelligence Officers work as part of a team to analyse collected and collated information to produce and disseminate intelligence which influences organisational decision-making at all levels. They communicate effectively and with influence with a range of stakeholders to achieve intelligence and operational outcomes.

As a Band 3 Intelligence Officer you will apply your experience and ability to:
  • Plan, collect, collate, analyse and disseminate intelligence under supervision.
  • Work collaboratively within the immediate team environment, as well as with other members in the AFP and the broader intelligence community.
  • Collect, triage and assess information of intelligence value during police operations.
  • On occasion brief intelligence consumers both written and orally.
  • Undertake intelligence and information management and administrative tasks.
  • Identify and interpret information and data obtained in an ethical manner, which is then used to inform assessments and reach conclusions to meet a specified user requirement.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the intelligence environment and relevant Commonwealth legislation.
As a Band 4 Intelligence Officer you will apply your experience and skills to:
  • Proactively plan, collect, collate and analyse information to produce and disseminate intelligence.
  • Work collaboratively within the immediate team environment, as well as with other AFP members and partner agencies.
  • Collect, triage and assess information of intelligence value during police operations.
  • Provide written and oral intelligence briefs to intelligence consumers.
  • Record information and intelligence appropriately.
  • Identify and interpret information and data obtained in an ethical manner, which is then used to inform assessments and reach conclusions to meet a specified user requirement.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the intelligence environment and relevant Commonwealth legislation.
Essential Requirements
  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance, or the ability to obtain one
  • Contemporary experience in an intelligence role, or a sound understanding of the role of intelligence in law enforcement.
