Job description

The Service:

The North West Maternity Services has recently undergone significant change to become the new North West Maternity Service (NWMS). This is a truly exciting time for the region, and the women of our community. We have a brand new Antenatal Clinic that opened in 2022 at North West Regional Hospital, and a new Maternity inpatient space is included in the Masterplanning for the region.

The North West Maternity Service is leading the way nationally in building towards a culture where our successes are recognised and celebrated, we don’t shy away from our challenges and instead see them as opportunities to grow and evolve with a shared purpose of the North West woman at the centre.  We actively work to cultivate an environment where all people are safe to speak, learn and share ideas, no matter their role, level of experience or position.

Significant investment has been made into our people in 2023 and this will continue into the future, remaining focused on best practice and innovation.

We believe that every staff member within the service can contribute to building this positive culture – because the culture is in ‘how’ we do what we do – we see that there is an opportunity to create this in every single interaction – whether it be with colleagues or with women and their families.

We are committed to ensuring the women accessing our service are at the centre of everything we do. The service includes inpatient and outpatient services at North West Regional Hospital, and also offers care close to home for our vast, beautiful geographical area. This includes outpatient services in Smithton, Queenstown, King Island and Mersey Community Hospital. Our midwives can travel this gorgeous coastline to provide care in Smithton, venture to the magical West Coast, and cross the sea to King Island.

As a midwife in this exciting new service, you will have many opportunities to care for women and their babies from varied backgrounds, different social status, a range of beliefs and expectations and challenged with physical and obstetric conditions.

Our service is proud to offer an abundance of learning opportunities for our staff, we are committed to ensuring our staff are practicing in a trauma informed, holistic and woman-centred way.

The Role:

Our Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) contemporary care model is based on providing continuity of care, where an assigned midwife will provide primary care of their client throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal recovery.
