Tell me more...The registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of quality, cost effective, patient/client/resident centred nursing care in consultation with other members of the health care team and in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's National competency standards for Registered Nurses and assumes individual accountability for actions within the position. The Registered Nurse (RN) works collaboratively with the Clinical Nurses (CN), Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) and Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in the delivery, management and development of the clinical services in the Thursday Island Perioperative Unit. The Registered Nurse promotes professional standards of practice and conduct and works towards achieving unit goals and standards.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation including Health and Hospitals Network Act, Workplace Health and Safety Act, and Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation and other relevant legislation.
• Demonstrate knowledge and practice in the application of evidenced based clinical management, diagnostic investigation and pharmacological management for perioperative patients including Anaesthetic and Post Anaesthetic Care.
• High level of communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with hospital and community health providers within the Torres Cape Hospital and Health Service and beyond.
• Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture.

Requirements for the role:

• It is a mandatory condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) hepatitis B.
