Job description

GREENPEACE

Greenpeace is an independent environmental campaigning organisation dedicated to securing an earth capable of nurturing life in all of its magnificent diversity.

THE ROLE

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the world’s most renowned environmental campaigning organisation in a highly dynamic role, working closely with Greenpeace Australia Pacific’s CEO, David Ritter, across key dimensions of his national and international responsibilities.

The successful candidate will lead the evolution and delivery of an integrated communications and engagement strategy to build and leverage David’s profile and networks, to drive organisational goals for greater impact. You will work very closely with David, helping to nurture his closest relationships with friends, supporters, allies and stakeholders.

We need someone entrepreneurial and strategic, who excels at communications strategy across all platforms, as well as understanding the power of deep relationships and expanding networks. You will also be the manager of the Office of the CEO, a small team embedded at the core of a high functioning web of organisational processes and networks, committed to driving maximum impact. Greenpeace Australia Pacific is proud of having a great organisational culture - and you will be right at the heart of things.

If you can see how this person, working with that person, connected through that thing, at that event, might create a great opportunity for impact… then this job could be for you!

This role is open to candidates who are based in Sydney.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone who understands the power of communications - particularly the way in which a CEO’s profile, channels and story-telling can be made most effective for achieving organisational goals. This is not about profile for its own sake - but making best use of the CEO’s persona, position and voice to drive Greenpeace’s mission. The successful applicant will be able to effortlessly efficiently manage the critical functions of the team, rapid response to breaking opportunities, and longer term strategic development.

You will need to understand the power and potential of all the channels - from mass traditional media, through the socials, to small scale email segment communications and intimate 1/1 relationships. The successful candidate will be dextrous, understanding that the CEO’s capabilities need to simultaneously serve multiple organisational campaigning and engagement priorities.

The candidate would benefit from a background in areas like education; communications strategy; relationship or stakeholder management; brand, marketing, communications and media; or campaigning - but please don’t be put off if you are not any of these but you think you are right for this role! We are interested in applicants from any relevant background - if you are excited by this opportunity then put in an application!

Emotional intelligence, strategic communications acumen, personal integrity, deep loyalty and integrity, the ability to maintain strict confidentiality, resilience within the communications environment, and an entrepreneurial spirit are all essential attributes for this role.

In terms of some basics, you will need:

  • Commitment to Greenpeace values and mission
  • Sufficient relevant professional experience
  • Competence in profile building and communications strategy
  • Excellent networking and relationship instincts and skills
  • Excellent team management skills
  • High level entrepreneurial instincts

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • This role is one of a kind. It is exciting, innovative, and gives you the opportunity to not only work very closely with the CEO of Greenpeace Australia Pacific, but to take centre-stage in tackling the climate crisis, work on historic projects, travel and build important and influential relationships.
  • There’s no doubt that this position requires resilience and working some unusual hours - it is that kind of role - but this is balanced with TOIL as necessary, and generous leave conditions, including equal parental leave and an extra week of leave during the Christmas to New Year period.
  • Greenpeace Australia Pacific has a genuinely fantastic workplace culture, built on great values, and you will be based in the soon-to-be opened Rainbow Warrior House regional headquarters,
  • An organisation that is taking an employee-led approach to adapting to the new ways of remote working;
  • A truly global culture that celebrates inclusivity and diversity, within a defined justice and belonging framework.

Salary $88,170.76 per annum + Superannuation. Contract role of two years with extension possible subject to funding.

How to Apply

Greenpeace is an equal opportunity employer with a longstanding commitment to providing a work environment that respects the dignity and worth of each individual. We recognise and value the benefits and strengths that diversity brings to our employees, and the whole organisation and we thrive in an environment that encourages respect and trust.

To apply for this role please submit a CV (of no more than 2 pages) and a separate Cover Letter (of no more than 1 page) detailing your suitability for the role.

Note: Not all responsibilities and competencies listed in the Job Description need to be addressed; it is left to the discretion of the applicant which to focus on.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have current working rights for Australia.
