Job description

Ready for a career with a collective cause?

Do you live for the buzz of being busy, busy, busy? How about applying your superior organisation skills to keep our team across the many swings and roundabouts of client demands?  Maybe you are looking to champion the character and characters of regional Australia?   Yes?  Come and join our boutique government relations firm!

A (Remote) Day in the Office

A day in the office at Collective Position means logging on from anywhere in Australia while tuning into the latest current affairs program while (remotely) bantering about your latest Netflix binge.

Switching to an in-depth discussion on the politics of the day, while checking emails, hitting the phones while downing your second coffee for the day (if that is your thing - we try not to judge if it is tea).

It also means being a key part of our busy tight-knit team, bringing your best “be your own boss” game and taking charge to deliver real outcomes for our clients.

Above all, it means you’ll be thrilled that today looks different to yesterday, be comfortable to hit the ground running on the latest issue and have laughs along the way.

The Role

We are seeking a communications all rounder for this busy role. Most weeks will be split between media relations, broader Communications and some stakeholder management.  Designing and measuring client strategies will also assist you to meet broader client objectives.

Day-to-day activities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Media relations activities that will see you writing pitches, talking points and releases on the key activities and stories of our clients.  Then engaging and building relationships with regional journalist and media outlets.
  2. Communications activities that will see you updating social media accounts, websites, preparing and issuing newsletters, managing external suppliers and preparing reports against client strategies.  There will also be a small event management component to the role.
  3. Stakeholder activities that will see you developing relationships with our client's various members, being a point of contact for updates and adding a personal touch to their engagement with our organisation.

In our consulting firm you will also be required to:

  • Maintain accurate timesheets and monitor project codes for budget purposes;
  • Participate and where relevant lead team meetings and strategy sessions;
  • Assist junior staff with client coordination and management issues;
  • Assist with new business development where relevant, including writing new business pitches and participating in pitches; and
  • Be an active team player to contribute to the success and culture of Collective Position.

The skills to set you on a path to success

  • A degree in Communications and at least 4 years experience in a similar role;
  • Ability to be tenacious under pressure and see actions through;
  • A love of and commitment to excellence in remote working;
  • Great customer service and communication skills and the ability to build relationships;
  • Tech savvy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, excel, office) as well as software such as content management systems, video conferencing, social media, media monitoring and workflow packages;
  • A flexible attitude to switch easily between priorities and clients;
  • An awesome sense of humour for those days when government does its thing (you know what I mean); and
  • The flexibility and ability to travel to client meetings or events we organise.

Value add: knowledge of Canva, Photoshop and InDesign will be seen favourably.

The Collective Position experience

At Collective Position you will experience the following:

  • Opportunity for growth: no matter your experience you will be supported to learn and grow with mentoring and training from our Senior Consultants or our Director / Founder;
  • You will be offered a seat at the table: as you sit in board meetings or meetings with senior stakeholders. There is no better way to be part of progress than having a seat where decisions are made; and
  • Just one of the team: at CP we are into flat structures and no egos so if a team vibe, where you are treated as an equal is your style, this is the place for you.
