With the backing of an international powerhouse this Australian based seed breeder screens and supplies premium cultivars across Australia. The business is focused on assisting growers/producers and processors increase productivity and profitability.

They offer premium cultivars across a wide range of species, we are constantly growing, testing, fine-tuning, and expanding our range. With new wheat varieties already established in the market and a pipeline in development they require a number of Research Agronomists to bring these varieties to market.

You will conduct wheat breeding field trials during the main and summer season including site selection, planting, spraying, weed and diseases control, irrigation, crop management, nutrition, harvesting, and data recording. You will also help manage, operate, and maintain irrigation system at their research farm.

Responsibilities

  • Selection and preparation of multiple field trial sites in Victoria.
  • Responsible for planting, managing, and harvesting multiple yield trials, experiments, breeding nurseries, and observational nurseries.
  • Conducting basic wheat quality tests.
  • Support in producing high quality breeder seed and NVT seed in bulk.
  • Support in glasshouse activities and other breeding operations.
  • Preparation of seed for all field trials and nurseries; including threshing, subsampling, cleaning, treating, and packing of materials for both main and contra season trials.
  • Management and allocation of casual labour and resources.
Requirements
  • Agricultural Science Degree (completed)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a researcher/agronomist in broadacre crops
  • Familiar with statistical computer programs with the ability to analyse and interpret field data
  • Enjoy field work and able to link theoretical with practical
  • Excellent at managing time independently and efficiently
  • Experience in R&D agricultural equipment (essential incl. planters, sprayers, utes, tractors, harvesters and implements)
  • HR Drivers & Forklift Licence (preferable)
  • ChemCert / Agsafe accredited

Location and Remuneration
  • A highly attractive package will be negotiated in-line with experience + FMV
  • Flexible location near Horsham, VIC (within 250km radius)
