The Organisation
STARTTS is a not-for-profit Affiliated Health Organisation focused on providing a broad range of services to refugees in NSW. The focus of STARTTS approach is on building capacity and empowering people and communities to take control over their own lives, using a strengths-based approach and building on individual, family, community and cultural strengths.
The Role:
The successful candidate will work with the Clinical Services and Research Team, supporting the team with data collection and relevant duties initially for TRIP (The Trauma Refugee Intervention Project) and also for other research projects.

Work Type: Full-time; 38 hours per week. Contract up to 30 June 2025. (Continuation subject to ongoing funding)

Vaccination Category: Category A
Salary: Psychologist, Social Worker, Health Education Officer, or other relevant classification based on qualifications, experience and requirements of the role. A generous salary packaging scheme is also offered to reduce the taxable income and increase the take home pay.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
Essential: * Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or social sciences or other relevant clinical qualification.

  • Demonstrated experience in Research and data collection, data entry. If necessary, willing to collect biological samples [. e.g., DNA Buccal swabs; collecting DNA from the cells on the inside of participant’s cheeks]. Relevant training will be provided.
  • Experience in clinical project evaluation design, implementation, data collection, analysis and writing brief reports and demonstrated experience in clinical assessments using structured questionnaires and semi-structured and in-depth clinical assessment interviews.
  • Ability to provide counselling support and basic short term clinical case management and case work if needed, to participants during psychological assessment and data collection phases.
  • Understanding of cultural and ethical issues relevant to the conduct of Research and Evaluation programs with participants from refugees and refugee-like backgrounds or demonstrated capacity to learn. This requirement includes some experience in working with interpreters.
  • Well-developed ability to produce clear, accurate and timely written case notes and research documentation.
  • Current NSW driver’s license and access to a car with capacity and willingness to travel for research relevant tasks, to various metropolitan and rural and regional areas.
  • Well-developed oral, written & interpersonal communication skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team within a multicultural environment and with minimum supervision.

  • Capacity to work remotely.
  • Speak a community language.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS
*This role is a Category A role. It is mandatory for Category A workers to meet and maintain the vaccination criteria (as per the current NSW Health and STARTTS policies) including annual Influenza vaccinations. Two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status. If successful you must provide evidence of vaccination.
Additionally, vaccination and/or assessment is required for Category A workers for the following transmissible diseases – measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and tuberculosis. If successful you must also provide evidence of vaccination and/or assessment.
Should you not be able to comply with vaccination requirements before your commencement date, the offer of employment may be withdrawn.
If you have a medical reason for why you cannot be vaccinated, a medical contraindication evidence will be required.
