Job Reference: 1119833
School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering
The School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering is a collegial working environment, which undertakes outstanding theoretical and applied research, and runs highly regarded and popular teaching programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
We firmly believe that our people are our most valuable asset, so we work to grow and diversify the skills, knowledge, and capability of all our staff. We embrace flexibility to allow our people to manage the changing demands of work, personal and family life.
About the Project and the role:
Concrete infrastructure is essential for economic growth and poverty alleviation, but the environmental impact of traditional cement production is a growing concern. The annual consumption of cement concrete has already reached 30 billion tonnes, emitting significant CO2 and posing risks of ground contamination. We are seeking a dedicated Research Associate to work on a groundbreaking project that aims to develop an alternative cementation technology inspired by nature's own building processes.
In this role you will:
•Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to isolate microbes from natural sites with dissolution and remineralisation phenomena.
•Conduct separate experimentation to demonstrate dissolution and remineralisation processes.
•Integrate the processes to showcase bio-sintering and its potential for reducing CO2 emissions.
•Assist in the development of a pilot-scale setup to establish design parameters for bio-sintering in specific applications.
•Lead rigorous experimentation to evaluate erosion prevention through bio-sintering for coastal and waterway protection.
•Analyse and interpret experimental data, preparing regular progress reports and contributing to research publications.
•Participate in team discussions, brainstorming sessions, and project planning meetings.
You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Only in limited situations will visa sponsorship situations be considered.
To learn more about this opportunity, please contact Professor Abhijit Mukherjee, School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering via ***************@curtin.edu.au.
