About BioSpine
BioSpine is an ongoing research project conducted within the Griffith Centre of Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering (GCORE). The project develops and translates integrated rehabilitation technologies to restore voluntary movement in people with spinal cord injury. The main project deliverables are developing and testing an electromechanical robotic rehabilitation system integrating brain-computer interfaces, human-machine interfaces, gamified cross reality, and controlled by a digital twin comprising of a personalised neuromusculoskeletal model.
GCORE represents people from Griffith University, the Gold Coast University Hospital, and other hospitals on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane, that are passionate about innovation, research and education across the ‘Lifecycle’ of orthopaedic, cardiovascular and neuromusculoskeletal conditions. GCORE embraces an active collaborative environment between researchers, engineers, designers, ICT, clinicians and health professionals, and organisational partnerships.
Job Description
The Research Engineer will support the BioSpine project related to font-end software development, and maintenance of BioSpine’s system architecture and associated codebase/s. This position will also design, document, implement, execute, maintain, and report on benchmark testing to comply with industry and regulatory standards.
Essential skills / experience:
  • React JS, Elastic UI, Next.JS, Store.JS
  • MERN stack
  • Demonstrated GUI project experience, with appropriate error handling to maintain front end stability
  • Proficient use of GitHub repositories and action workflows
  • Developing detailed software documentation
Desirable skills / experience:
  • Python, C++, CMake, PowerShell
  • Developing unit tests
  • Maintaining Continuous Integration systems
  • Use of VSCode for software development
  • Experience using Robot Operating System (ROS2)
  • Automating data storage management (e.g., WebDAV or FTP)

You will hold a Bachelor Degree or equivalent qualifications/work experience in software engineering, platform engineering, Research Engineering, computer science, or a related field.

What we can offer
This is a full-time role, fixed-term contract until 30/06/2026, with the possibility for extension. Part-time employment would also be considered for suitable candidates.
Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The base salary is in the range $70229.70 - $74275.72 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation.
