THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a proactive and skilled Research Officer to join our dynamic and dedicated research team at the Drone Lab of the School of Computing at Macquarie University.
The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research on AI-based Drone Systems. Preference will be given to individuals with bachelor's and/or master's degrees in computer science, mechatronics, or a closely related field with proven expertise in robotics/drones, such as an understanding of networking and operating systems, robotic control algorithms, AI/ML-based computer vision, and/or sensor fusion. You will be a quick learner, show good versatility, and rapidly build, deploy, fly and test software and hardware systems relevant to drones and UAVs. The project is in partnership with an Australian-based drone company, Skyy Network.

Experience in testing embedded systems such as drones and robots, this includes experience with ROS, C/C++, Python, etc.
Experience with open-source platforms such as Ardupilot and PX4 is a big plus.
Understanding how mathematical algorithms are applied in practical systems, such as feedback control in autonomous drones/robots or AI/ML computer vision for navigation.
Experience with location navigation systems, such as GPS, indoor localisation, etc.
Good written and oral communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Salary Package: Level 5 from $80,753 - $91,815 per annum, plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term up to March 2025 with a possibility of further extension subject to funding.
