About the roleWe are currently seeking applications from experienced youth workers to join our service as a
Residential Support Worker. We have multiple opportunities available offered on a casual basis. This position is required to work shifts which will include overnight and weekend shifts.As a
Residential Support Worker, you will provide support to young people participating in a 11 day withdrawal program for young people 13-21 years OR our a therapeutic residential program for young people 13 - 17 years who are experiencing problematic substance use and seeking support.These programs are voluntary and promote harm reduction, relapse prevention and strength based interventions. The aim of the programs is to provide a safe and supportive residential environment for young people to experience life without alcohol and/or other drugs.The withdrawal program is for 11 days and young people can stay in the longer term therapeutic residential for up to 3 months. Residential
Support Workers will work across both programs.Salary range: $36 - $38.60 per hour (SACS Award Level 3) plus superannuation and salary packaging
What you'll be doingIn this role, you will provide a broad range of support interventions for young people who present with problematic substance use and emotional health concerns.Other duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Ensure the provision of safe residential care to young people during their withdrawal from substances
- Support young people who enter the therapeutic residential program to reach their goals in relation to their individual treatment plan
- Assist young people with daily living skills (cooking, washing cleaning etc.)
- Facilitate smooth running of the program/timetable both in the withdrawal program and the therapeutic residential
- Facilitate recreational components of the program including art and music
- Promote youth participation in activities and foster positive relationships with young people in the programs
About youTo be successful in this role you will possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:
- Qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs / Youth Work / Community Service or other health related qualification or working towards similar
- Demonstrated experience working with young people affected by substance misuse
- Experience in working with young people in a residential setting
- Current first aid certificate and open drivers licence
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
