What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Rostering & Planning Officer within the Quintiq National Coordination Team located in Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

The National Coordination Team is responsible for:

  • Managing the rostering and planning for AFP National staff (sworn and unsworn) located in Canberra;
  • Developing and maintaining the governance and standards associated with ensuring best rostering practices are adopted across the AFP;
  • Providing a service and support capability for staff in the use of Quintiq - the AFP’s rostering and time recording solution; and
  • Maintaining ongoing training and development in the use of Quintiq.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position.

What will you do?

As a Rostering and Planning Officer (Planner) within the National Coordination Team, you will be required to:

  • Maintain the rostering schedule for staff on all working patterns.
  • Develop rosters in Quintiq and make changes as required to support operational requirements.
  • Apply fairness and transparency to all rostering decisions by prioritising member welfare and fatigue alongside operational requirements.
  • Fill vacant shifts within a 24/7 environment to ensure operational numbers are maintained and are compliant with the AFP Enterprise Agreement and Better Practice Guides.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders and members.
  • Provide advice to staff regarding compliance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement and rostering guidelines
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of the business rules and operational requirements

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Well-developed time management, organisational and planning skills to manage multiple tasks, changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in rostering within a 24/7 environment.
  • Ability to work flexibly and achieve outcomes in a busy and challenging environment.

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded: 

  • Experience working with the Quintiq rostering solution or similar rostering software
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in Human Resources or Industrial Relations. 

Additional Information

  • This position is an AFP Band Level 4
  • Roles are located in Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney and successful applicants will work from within these office locations.  
  • Proof of a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccinations (or one dose if the Janssen vaccine was used) will be required if an offer of employment is made.
