You will provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Trauma Service patients, both in terms of individual performance and by providing clinical leadership and contribution to a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care. Responsible for the immediate assessment and management of severely injured trauma patients, you will be expected to develop skills in being the Trauma Team Leader and facilitate patients’ journey through the hospital. As part of your role, you will have an active involvement in teaching Medical Students and Trainee Medical Officers and, where appropriate, Nursing and Allied Health staff. You will also participate in regular weekly clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management activities and continuous medical education activities. There is a strong focus on research with the RAH running local research trials and participating in large multinational trauma trials. The new Royal Adelaide Hospital is the largest hospital in South Australia (SA), providing world class health care and facilities. The most advanced hospital in Australia, the new RAH is the cornerstone of the reformed SA Health system - harnessing the latest in architectural design in order to create a state-of-the-art health environment for patients and positive working environments for staff. The RAH sees around 450 seriously injured (ISS>12) patients a year and is South Australia’s largest and busiest trauma centre. MedSTAR (the Statewide Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Service) has strong ties to the RAH and most of the seriously injured patients from across SA are brought to the RAH either by air or road.
Holding a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, you will be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner. Having completed Basic Life Support (BLS) training and demonstrating clinical experience in Trauma medicine, you will bring the ability to work independently and exercise a high level of professional judgement and medical competence in a multidisciplinary setting. Past experience in the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff will be ideal.
