We are working exclusively with a Leading Supplier of construction materials, and a new exciting opportunity is now available.

They are looking for a professional Workplace Health and Safety Advisor. This is a permanent opportunity, to work in a tight-knit team and add value and partner with your client group.

The company: A Leading Supplier of construction materials, this is 100% Australian-owned and has consistently grown year on year. They currently have over $1 Billion in project involvement, dealing with some high-level contracts & clients such as Sydney Airport. Running over 150 People in headcount, they are passionate about support and well-being for their people and continue to grow and evolve their approaches.

Reporting to the Environmental health and safety Manager who has been there for over 4 years, with a wealth of knowledge to support & bounce ideas. They are down to earth, transparent, honest and leads by example. They are looking for someone who can work as a team but take full responsibility for the sites and people, and to ensure they educate and bring people on the journey.

This is a multi-site and people-facing/operational role. While there is some flexibility in working from home on occasion, it is the construction industry, and it’s about being present and spreading your time across the network.

  • Please note this is mainly an on-site role given the nature of the industry but some flexibility to work from home here and there 
One of the real upsides of working here is that they embrace the latest in technology, safety is no different. They have recently implemented a new safety management system which has eliminated a lot of unnecessary paperwork and increased the use of it through digital forms. The digital forms can be completed on a phone or tablet and are stored in the cloud.

Role responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of the safety management system.
  • Provide guidance to the site management teams across all sites regarding the effective implementation of the site's safety management system.
  • Provide coaching and training to site personnel regarding the risk management process and the use of the site's documents and forms.
  • Review the risks of the site in consultation with all key stakeholders and ensure risk controls are identified and in place.
  • Assist in developing task-based risk assessments such as, safe work method statements and job safety analysis.
  • Lead the development of a site safety improvement plan and support the site management team in the review and close out of actions.
  • Undertake training needs analysis, to identify ongoing needs and training requirements are met.
  • Oversee the sites training programs to ensure it meets legislative and business requirements, including evaluating training outcomes.
  • Review and advise site management of changes in legislative compliance.
  • Ensure contractors are managed in accordance with the safety management system.
  • Ensure that the management of significant incidents and emergency situations are consistent with the company and legislative requirements 
  • Provide advice and assist in the management of workers compensation and rehabilitation and return to work of injured workers.
About you:   

If you are someone who doesn’t like to get outside to multiple sites, partner heavily and be a part of a growing company, this IS NOT for you. But if you are a people person who wants to partner and make a change and is a self-starter, this is it! 

This is not just about displaying your technical ability but bringing everyone on the journey. Some of the conversations might be battles, which you’ll have to fight another day, but they are not looking for a safety police officer, they want someone who can really educate and guide for the best outcome possible.  

  • Certificate IV or above in Work, Health, and Safety
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment
  • Strong PC and written communication skills
  • 3 years or more experience in a WHS function in a similar industry.
    • Best industries is around manufacturing, construction, building materials, transport / logistics etc 
  • Understanding of WHS(M&PS) Act and Regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Australian Standards, Codes of Practice
  • MUST have a valid driving license 
Desirables:
  • Qualifications in auditing
  • ICAM lead investigator training or equivalent
  • Return to Work Coordinator qualifications
