About Sample Processing Laboratory:

The Sample Processing and Analytical Facility is part of Support Services and a division of Scientific Services.  The Sample Processing Service provides expertise and service for the pre-analytical preparation of biological samples and is designed to efficiently and economically meet requirements.  The service works alongside researchers and clients, to design bespoke solutions for the collection, transportation, storage, aliquoting, blood fractioning and cell isolation, nucleic extraction (DNA and RNA extraction), sample QC, and PCR of samples.  Capacity for high-throughput processing or single Sample Processing is accommodated.  The Service dovetails a range of the Scientific Services to provide a seamless product from sample collection to data.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities: 

Applications are invited for a Sample Processing Technician

The following duties will apply:

• Receipt and process human clinical samples according to established protocols and within agreed timelines and meeting quality processes and standards.
• Communicate with clients confirming the progress of Sample Processing and notify them of results completion.
• Accurately record details of Sample Processing, including storage within the QIMR Berghofer Sample Repository.
• Assist in the development and review of the facility’s processing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and practices.
• Act as part of a small team, assist in other areas of the Sample Processing and Analytical Facility and build relationships with internal customers.

About you: 

You are required to have:

• Minimum Bachelor of Science in life sciences or a related field; or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience and skills in the processing of biological samples (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, whole blood extractions and cell isolation).
• Excellent communication skills, a proven ability to work in a small team and build relationships with customers.
• Proven ability to enter and maintain accurate records with a high level of accuracy, ideally demonstrated with database use.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines and to follow tasks through to completion, adhering to quality standards.

Remuneration: Salary range is $71,225 to $84,874p.a.  plus super and salary packaging. This is a Full-time fixed term appointment for 12 months.
