- To provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Genetic Pathology to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
- To provide either individually or in conjunction with another genetic pathologist, full-time, on-site medical supervision according to NPAAC requirements to the laboratories performing genetic testing at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
- To provide clinical input of all aspects of the laboratory services currently within the Western Sydney Genetics Program at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead including Sydney Genome Diagnostics and the Statewide services: NSW Newborn Screening Programme and NSW Biochemical Genetics Service.
- The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.
- Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge and technical expertise within the specialty of Genetic Pathology including a scope of practice covering each department.
- Demonstrated laboratory experience relevant to Genetic screening and diagnostics.
- Demonstrated willingness or experience in working across multiple laboratory sites.
- Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and/or medical education and staff training for staff on-site plus those requiring training in State-wide services.
- Proven ability to work as a team member with effective communication and interpersonal skills and adaptability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management and continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
