The Children's Hospital at Westmead's Neurology Department is currently seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Staff Specialist Neurogenetics professional for a permanent 0.2FTE role.
What you'll be doing
This 0.2FTE permanent clinical role will be focused on the diagnosis and medical management of patients from the Neurogenetics service, including neuromuscular patients and patients with neurofibromatosis.
The Staff Specialist will be responsible for:

  • The diagnosis and medical management of patients in the Neurogenetics clinic with the expectation of attending 30 clinics per calendar year
  • Participation on an on-call Neurogenetics roster (in-hours only) to address acute issues related to Neurogenetics patients
  • Pro-rate participation in the General Neurology on-call roster
  • Outpatient follow up of Neurogenetics patients seen in the clinic
  • Educating and supervising other medical staff involved in Neurogenetics and contributing to multidisciplinary discussion and care planning
  • Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff
  • Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Paediatric Neurology and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Paediatric Neurology, Genetics and Neuromuscular or Neurogenetic Medicine (desired).
  • Commencement or completion of a higher degree (Masters of PhD) in Neuromuscular or Neurogenetic Medicine (desired).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.

ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) 2 primary doses are required for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases).
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the
seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.

The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title will also confer membership upon the appointee of the University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The academic title will be held for the duration of The Children's Hospital at Westmead appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to The Children's Hospital at Westmead for clinical matters.
