The Ophthalmology department at The Children's Hospital at Westmead are seeking a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) to join their team on an on-call basis for the quinquennium period (current quinquennium period ends on 30th June 2027).

Provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services for optimal patient outcomes.
Provide and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice.

As this is a “Category A” position, please refer to the NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination for vaccination requirements.
Applicants must have completed the COVID-19 vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) 2 primary doses are required for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases).
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Ophthalmologist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
- Fellowship level sub-specialist training in Paediatric Vitreoretinal surgery and Paediatric medical retina.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Paediatric Vitreoretinal surgery and Paediatric medical retina at the role delineation of the service.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
