Senior Advisor - Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)

  • Facilitate a business planning process at the centre of strategic and tactical decisions for all of Rio Tinto Iron Ore

About the roleThe Sales and Operational Planning (S&OP) process drives business responsiveness in our changing operational and market environment. S&OP connects the right teams in Rio Tinto with the right information to drive holistic value. S&OP is a key priority for RTIO and RTC and we are looking to mature and accelerate our S&OP journey.The iron ore market will continue to evolve rapidly, with increasing pressure on both steel and iron ore producers to reduce carbon emissions, and ongoing changes in steel production and iron ore supply and demand dynamics. This is changing how the iron ore market operates and therefore how Rio Tinto needs to compete to continue to be a successful market participant. S&OP enables Rio Tinto to proactively respond to future market opportunities and challenges through bringing the voice of customers to operations, and the voice of operations through to front office sales teams. These teams working seamlessly together to improve our business and customer outcomes will signal the success of S&OP.This is a great opportunity for a Senior Advisor to contribute to the future success of Rio Tinto's iron ore business and gain material exposure across the Pilbara asset and commercial function. It provides the opportunity to influence critical decisions in the business including product quality, production, and sales. The role will be based at Central Park in Perth and will report to the Senior Manager Sales and Operations Planning.We are looking for a Senior Advisor to facilitate and accelerate S&OP process maturity, and deliver superior value across the value chain for Rio Tinto Iron Ore. This role is a great opportunity for a person who thrives in driving value through operational and supply chain excellence.Reporting to the Senior Manager S&OP and working with Operations Planning, sales and other support functions, you will:Facilitate and continuously improve the S&OP business process in Iron Ore which includes:
  • Preparing presentations for the Demand, Supply, Resolution and Executive monthly planning meetings.
  • Working closely with Sales and Operations teams to identify issues and opportunities and evaluate trade-off options, ensuring a focus on value at stake.
  • Summarising issues and trade-off options for presentation to senior management.
  • Track initiatives and actions through the process to implementation, including post-decision reviews.
  • Create a strong link between annual and quarterly plans, focusing primarily on the 3-18-month time horizon.
Lead and implement S&OP improvement projects, including:
  • Define key success measures and interaction with other processes.
  • Actively contribute to and assess process maturity and effectiveness.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement process changes.
  • Develop systems, templates, and tools to support the process.
Collaborate closely with other product group S&OP teams to share best practices and improve the business S&OP process.About youTo be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • University degree, preferably in commerce, finance or engineering.
  • +5 years of related experience, preferably supply chain planning functions, business improvement, or iron ore operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate complex information to clearly present options & value analysis to senior stakeholders.
  • Aptitude to engage cross-functional stakeholders, with sometimes disparate opinions and agendas, to develop common outcomes, strategies, and plans. Create buy-in in both large and small groups while balancing trade-offs in each stakeholder community.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, understanding how to effectively drive consensus and alignment for decisions.
  • Demonstrated performance in delivering improvement projects in productivity, transformation, change or organisational design.
  • Knowledge of the iron ore production process, financial performance, and underlying value drivers.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Change management and transformational change certifications are desired.
  • Experience in end-to-end supply chain or S&OP role.
