They invest heavily in innovation, research and development and continually look for ways to use new technologies and farm practices supporting environmental sustainability.The PositionReporting to the Agricultural Productivity Manager, the Senior Agronomist is accountable for implementing agronomic improvement initiatives and monitoring performance on all of the Wilmar farms across four regions. Additionally, the role will allocate 50% of their time in a research extension capacity to focus on initiatives that will improve cane supply to Wilmar mills.
Additionally, the role is responsible for ensuring that Wilmar’s farming operations are compliant with Government regulations and other sustainability indices as well as the identifying, developing, and implementing farming systems to increase productivity and profitability.The PersonWe are keen to hear from you if you possess the following key skills, experience, and attributes:
- Extensive experience working in a senior level agronomic capacity ideally with exposure to sugar cane and harvesting systems
- Experience managing and leading fixed term and casual employees
- Working knowledge of farm recording software and the use of GPS with the ability to interpret and implement strategies based on precision agricultural information
- Experience in irrigation scheduling tools and software
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of WH&S Acts, Regulations, and Codes of Practice
- Industry accreditations including Fert Care Level C and ChemCert (or equivalent)
- Tertiary qualifications in Ag Science or similar
- Proficient in Microsoft suite
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both internal and external)
- Be a self-starter with high levels of initiative and drive
- Experience in pest and disease identification and control, nutrient management planning, use of soil ameliorants, irrigation scheduling in sugarcane production systems will be highly regarded
