Purpose of the role

Greater Bank and Newcastle Permanent have recently come together to form NGM Group Ltd, a powerhouse in customer-owned banking. As our organisation continues to evolve, we’re seeking an accomplished professional to play a pivotal role in the development and execution of the Group’s Corporate Development activities, supporting our broader enterprise strategy.

In this newly created role, you’ll work closely with our Head of Corporate Development to shape our future through the successful evaluation and negotiation of potential partnerships and major transactions. Ideal for a seasoned, forward-thinking, Corporate Development professional, with strong business acumen and analytical capabilities, this is a unique opportunity to make an impact with a leading customer-owned bank.

What will your key responsibilities include? 

  • Supporting the development and execution of NGM Group’s Corporate Development strategy, including evaluation and negotiation of potential partnerships and major transactions.
  • Maintaining the strategic relationships of NGM Group with the retail banking industry, mutual sector and other partners, including ownership of the relationship with the Customer Owned Banking Association and FinTech Australia.
  • Supporting the Head of Corporate Development and Chief Strategy & Merger Integration Officer, CEO, Directors and other Executives with their strategic engagement with NGM Group’s key regulators and regulatory forums.
  • Maintaining the Stakeholder Map for NGM Group, including key actions and plans arising from that map.
  • Contributing to and/or coordinating inorganic growth, divestment and partnership transactions through any due diligence and deal execution processes (as required).
  • Supporting the Head of Corporate Development to prepare for and communicate regarding any key deliverables of the Corporate Development business unit to the Board, relevant Board Committees, Executive Team and other stakeholders. 
  • In conjunction with the Strategy team, monitoring, analysing and assessing market dynamics, research and competitor trends to inform the Corporate Development function’s activities.
  • Assess, manage and monitor risks or issues relating to the Corporate Development business unit, taking into account impacts on other areas of the business where applicable, and implement appropriate migration strategies and plans for those risks.  

What are we looking for?

  • Tertiary qualification with sound academic credentials, such as Bachelor of Business or Commerce (or equivalent) 
  • Demonstrated experience in Corporate Development activities. Deal-vetting and deal-pitching capabilities will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in, or capacity to, promptly familiarise with the financial services sector.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with a consultative and collaborative approach. 
  • Professional skills: organised; great attention to detail; emotional intelligence, conscientious; motivated; reliable; team player; IT savvy; lateral thinking to problem solve; understanding of risk and governance frameworks. 
  • Business acumen with the ability to manage and prioritise matters both independently and collaboratively. 
  • Strong change management and negotiation skills.
