About the Business Unit
Victim Assist Queensland (Victim Assist) helps victims to recover. Victim Assist provides assistance to victims of violent crime (including all forms of domestic and family violence) in accordance with the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
The services delivered by Victim Assist include:

  • Providing financial assistance to aid recovery.
  • Supporting the victim services sector within Queensland though information, coordination, research, education and funding.
  • Assisting government and non-government agencies to comply with the Charter of Victims’ Rights.
  • Managing complaints made in relation to the Charter.
About the Role
The Senior Assessor will be appointed by the chief executive as a Government Assessor under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009. This position reports to the Team Leader, Financial Assistance.

About the Role
The Senior Assessor will be appointed by the chief executive as a Government Assessor under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009 (Section 128). This position reports to the Team Leader, Financial Assistance and will:
  • Perform functions as required under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
  • Undertake evidence-based decision making in line with legislative intent to provide financial assistance to victims of crime.
  • Provide authoritative advice to administrative officers as required to enable the timely and responsive delivery of services to victims of crime.
Applicants are advised that the work of Victim Assist will expose employees to material including distressing and offensive content. It is likely that employees will be required to engage with persons who have experienced distressing circumstances and/or are involved with the justice system. Key Responsibilities
  • Undertakes evidence-based decision making in accordance with the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
  • Delivers quality and responsive services to clients through the application of Victim Assist resources, policies, processes, systems and technologies.
  • Responsible for the case-management of applications for financial assistance, including accurate record-keeping, and providing mentoring as required.
  • Takes responsibility for completion of work and seeks guidance when required.
  • Communicates effectively and creates trusting relationships with a range of stakeholders including other departmental business units and the non-government sector, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of Victim Assist services.
  • Contributes to a high performing team, collaborates with others, displays motivation, and shares and encourages innovative ideas.
  • Identifies and implements ways to continually improve services, though sharing and seeking creative ideas, suggestions and data to inform the effective delivery of services
