Senior Biodiversity Officer

We are looking for a Senior Biodiversity Officer for a busy Local Council!

Your new company 

We are looking for a seasoned Biodiversity Officer in full/part-time to provide technical advice to support statutory and strategic planning processes related to biodiversity values and native vegetation, while we are recruiting a permanent employee for the role. 

Your new role 

• Support strategic and statutory planning processes by reviewing technical reports and providing specialist advice on impacts to biodiversity values and native vegetation. » Prepare responses to all levels of government relating to biodiversity values and native vegetation protection, enhancement, and restoration. 

• Provide technical advice to strategic planning documents such as Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs), Development Plans (DPs) and planning scheme amendments – to advocate for the projection of biodiversity values and the retention of native vegetation. 

•  Organise and implement objectives detailed within strategies and plans with a focus on biodiversity values and native vegetation – including (but not limited to) surveys, monitoring, management and reviews. Contribute to professional networks to identify relevant initiatives in environmental planning, with a focus on biodiversity values and native vegetation –including local government officers, Government, and nongovernment organisations. 

• Represent Council on relevant committees, at meetings and events as appropriate to carry out this position. 

• Keep up-to-date and apply legislation and regulations relevant to the responsibilities of this position. 

What you'll need to succeed 

• Tertiary qualification in environmental science, natural resource management,
  Environmental management, ecology or related field

• Demonstrated experience responding to environmental planning referrals focused on
  Biodiversity values and native vegetation.

• Demonstrated experience providing strategic planning advice with a focus on biodiversity
  values and native vegetation.

• Driver's Licence which is valid to drive within Victoria.
