Job description

Original Power is a community-focused, Aboriginal led organisation that builds the collective power of our people and backs our leadership, skills and capacity to genuinely achieve self-determination in our community and on country.

Original Power provides strategic advice and campaign support, facilitates capacity building and connects communities. The demands of climate justice require us to not only confront the climate crisis, but in doing so, build our capacity to ensure we are people who can confront all forms of injustice, determine our own futures and help bring greater control and dignity to our communities.

We are seeking an experienced Campaigner to join the team, and support our work in Defence of Country, partnering with communities in the Northern Territory to support their efforts to self-determine what happens in their communities and on country.

This could include supporting communities on their country, getting behind a community protecting cultural heritage through lobbying decision makers, or supporting Traditional Owners advocating for a renewable energy project.

This work will build connections between our people using organising and campaigning as a way of making change, and sharing the tools and resources needed.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Design and deliver a program to recruit, train and motivate a range of people to shape and participate in campaigns in their communities
  • Plan and support on-ground campaign and organising activities, events and tactics to achieve campaign and organisational goals
  • Draft a wide range of high quality material such as written submissions, policy proposals, public presentations, media releases and digital communications

  4. Understand the impacts of climate change on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities and the key interventions necessary to achieve climate justice
  5. Current valid driver’s licence and ability to travel widely.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in community based training and facilitation
  2. Familiarity with policy and legal frameworks relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land management and ownership.
