About the Role
The Senior Case Worker MH/AOD role supports the Aboriginal Service’s and Client Services Manager while providing counselling, case management and advocacy to individuals, couples, family outreach and groups. As a senior officer, this role assists the manager with the delivery and facilitation of culturally secure services for Aboriginal women and their families that target the needs of the client base.
The role operates under limited direction from the Client Services Manager and Executive Management team, undertaking a range of functions for which operational policies, practices and guidelines may need to be developed.
As a senior employee supported by the Client Services Manager and Management Team, your role includes:
- Delivering a service targeting at risk Aboriginal women and their families
- Providing overall leadership to staff, volunteers, and students
- Providing support and advocacy to the target group(s)
- Providing counselling support which may include one to one individual, couples, family outreach and group approaches
- Participating in relevant project activities, such as the school holiday program
- Developing and facilitating culturally secure groups for Aboriginal women and their families that targets the needs of the client base
- Developing and delivering relevant educational/training programs to target group, staff and other service providers
- Provision of oral and written reports as necessary
- Participating in agency networking to promote Womens Health and Family Services, with reference to Aboriginal services, to relevant organisations
- Participating in organisational meetings, contract reporting, and project development as required
To be successful in this role you will possess strong interpersonal skills to engage with consumers, their families and Carers coupled with skills in person centered, consumer focused practice, problem solving, planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic, psychoeducational or support groups.
Essential:
- Relevant diploma or degree such as counselling, mental health, AOD or equivalent significant experience in field
- Counselling and/or case management training and experience
- Demonstrated ability to deliver services to the target group.
- Understanding and knowledge of the needs and issues relevant to the target group
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with individuals, groups, and organisations
- Knowledge of a wide range of community service providers especially those relevant to the target group
- Experience in community-based service delivery, counselling, and case-management with sound knowledge of AOD and Mental Health
- Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with Aboriginal communities
- Valid C class license, National Criminal Records Screening, Working with Children Check, and COVID-19 vaccinations.
