This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the PM&C delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 18 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of three years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
PM&C’s Communications Branch delivers best practice communications to meet the needs of the Prime Minister, portfolio ministers, the Secretary, the Department and portfolio agencies.
The Corporate Communications and Strategy team works with a variety of PM&C policy, program, corporate and executive clients spanning a broad range of subject matter and requirements to provide strategic advice and deliver innovative communications solutions across both internal and external channels.
We are looking to fill vacancies in the below positions:
- EL1 Senior Corporate/Internal Communications Adviser - leading internal communications to support to a wide range of areas across PM&C. This includes building strong working relationships across the Department; developing and implementing a content strategy; developing, implementing and evaluating communications strategies; managing and developing staff and working closely with colleagues across the Communications Branch.
- EL1 Senior External Communications Adviser – leading the strategic communications for priority areas across PM&C’s policy and program areas. This includes building strong working relationships across the Department; providing high quality strategic communications advice; developing, implementing and evaluating multi-channel communications strategies; developing engaging written and digital content; managing a small team and developing staff.

You will have:
- Robust leadership qualities including a highly collegiate, evidence-based and persuasive working style.
- The ability to spearhead the modernisation and transformation of priorities and functions bringing your colleagues, reports and stakeholders along with you.
- A minimum of five years’ experience working in a senior communications role (strategic communications, corporate communications, internal communications or change communications).
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, marketing, media or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience mentoring, managing and developing staff.
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to deliver outcomes while managing competing priorities, deadlines and multiple client areas.
- Highly developed written skills and experience developing content for various channels to appeal to different audiences.
- Experience developing, implementing and evaluating effective communication strategies, including a sophisticated understanding of contemporary communication practices.
- The ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, including providing advice to Ministerial offices and/or PM&C’s senior executive.
- An eye for detail and excellent judgement.
- The ability to be flexible, agile, and respond constructively to change and uncertainty.
- An understanding of data analytics, measurement and experience in undertaking evaluation reporting.
