Job description

We are looking for a highly experienced contract professional to lead the Agency’s contracting activity aligned primarily to the delivery of our marketing program.

You will have a strong understanding of commercial contracting practices and significant experience in drafting a range of legal instruments.

You will relish the opportunity to continue the evolution of the contracting function processes and will work across the team to deliver a wide variety of diverse projects.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • The successful delivery of the contracts and procurement program, working across the operations of the agency to understand and prioritise contracting activity, and delivering outcomes in a fast-paced commercial environment to meet program requirements.
  • Liaising with third parties and identifying program and individual activity risks, taking a balanced approach to achieving the desired outcomes and working across the agency with a collaborative and open communication work style.
  • Continually evolving the contracts function to meet agency objectives, including approach, policies, procedures and documentation and driving the development of required capabilities across the Agency.
  • Maintaining knowledge of contemporary procurement and contracting practices from a commercial, legal and government perspective.
  • Providing legal coordination and support services on issues that may arise from time to time and liaise with the Office of Crown Law, as required.

What you'll work on:

  • Fostering internal relationships to understand Tourism Tasmania’s program objectives, providing expert guidance and recommending fit for purpose contract and procurement solutions to realise program activities.
  • Delivering the contracts program through a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to contracting services that realise the agency’s objectives.
  • Drafting and reviewing procurement documents, including tenders and requests for quotations, ensuring clarity, accuracy and compliance with the regulatory framework.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal contracts, variations and contracts for services to meet business objectives, in line with Crown Law guidelines.
  • Ensuring risk assessments are completed for proposed contracts and advise on risk management strategies to mitigate potential risks.
  • Managing data privacy considerations for contracted activity.
  • Liaising with the Office of Crown Law on specialist and technical contract and procurement activities, as required.
  • Managing and reviewing contract and procurement policies and procedures and leading the continued education of staff with regard to legal, contract performance and risk.
  • Developing and implementing performance measurements to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of contract program to drive continuous improvements.
  • Managing the record keeping and reporting of the agency’s Contract and Procurement program including statutory and performance reporting.
  • Being the executive officer for the agency’s Procurement Review Committee.
  • Coordinating the legal aspect of the agency’s responses to any Right to Information.
  • Fostering positive relationships with external contractors, vendors, partners and other government entities to enhance collaboration, resolve any contractual issues that may arise and support key activities.
  • Enabling the Better Business program supporting other related projects as required by the Manager Better Business.
  • Developing and maintain knowledge of contemporary contracting and procurement practices.

You are an experience, pragmatic and highly organised contracts professional who has a wide range of experience that can be applied across our diverse contracts portfolio. You will have commercial acumen, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to influence people and outcomes to deliver the agency's objectives.

Period of appointment:

Permanent, flexible (minimum .08 FTE)
