About the Role

  • The role can be based in Brisbane/Perth/Adelaide (Australia) or Santiago (Chile)

As a Principal Analytics Data Platform Engineer, you will provide expertise in the design, implementation and continuous improvements of BHP's core Analytics Data Storage and Processing technologies. You will work within the Analytics Platform Team to provide the technical expertise to help our customers on technologies such as S3, Snowflake, DBT Cloud, Kafka and other technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in guiding the design and ongoing success of BHP's core analytics platforms - primarily our Data Lake, Data Warehouse, Data Processing/Transformation, Streaming and Data Observability tools.
  • Seek to continuously improve the Data Storage & Processing platforms with automation opportunities, monitoring and new feature releases.
  • Champion the adoption of BHP Enterprise Data Platforms throughout the business
  • Define, communicate and maintain standards, frameworks, guidelines and best practice engineering guides for data platforms.
  • Engage with our operations teams to understand Platform issues and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Pro-actively engage and collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Platform Architecture, Cyber Security, other Data Platform Teams (e.g. Data Management and Integration), Project Teams and BHP Cloud Teams.
About You
  • Demonstrate strong exposure to modern/cloud data centric platforms and infrastructure - including enterprise data warehouses/data lakes, master data, integration platforms, data virtualisation, reporting/data warehousing and advanced analytics platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with several of the following Data Storage & Processing tools which make up our landscape: Snowflake, dbt, GitLab (or similar), Airflow, Flyaway, Confluent/Kafka and S3.
  • Snowflake platform administration knowledge - proficient with concepts of roles, users, objects and relations between them.
  • Proven engineering experience with data centric PaaS services - AWS or Azure including security and networking concepts in the cloud.
  • Experience in data ops toolsets, CI/CD practices and IaaC tools such as Terraform
  • Experience working within an Agile, DevOps and Product Team mindset.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills and ability to guide and train others
  • Drive for continuous learning/improvement and adaptable to new technologies and approaches.


Desirable:

  • Snowflake certifications
  • AWS and or DBT certifications
  • Experience with PowerBi and/or ML platforms.
