About the role
Mater is looking for a Senior Director Strategy, Risk and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) to join the Corporate Development & Legal team. This permanent, full-time role will be based at Mater Newstead.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900
What you'll be doing
The Senior Director Strategy, Risk and ESG holds a pivotal role working with the Group Chief Corporate Development and Legal in guiding the Mater's long-term strategic direction, risk management, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibilities.
The role will work closely with the Group Executive and Leadership team to shape, manage and monitor the organisation's overall strategy, identify growth opportunities, investigate strategic initiatives, and drive their implementation to support organisational growth and financial sustainability, while ensuring alignment with ESG principles and best practices in risk management.
The role provides support and insights to the Group Chief Corporate Development & Legal on strategic initiatives and emerging opportunities while also working with cross-functional teams to deliver key initiatives and strategic projects that contribute to Mater's corporate development. In addition to shaping the strategic agenda, the Senior Director leads a specialist team, providing leadership in risk assessment and mitigation across all Ministry activities, as well as overseeing Mater's ESG framework and initiatives, including environmental management and reporting.

About you
You will ideally hold a Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree
  • At least 10+ years of experience in corporate development and strategy, preferably within the healthcare industry
  • Proven experience in leading major corporate business transactions; e.g. M&A, business sales, outsource arrangements, services agreements, etc
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams to deliver results
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop actionable plans to achieve goals.
  • Strong financial and business analysis skills that support business case development, reporting, due diligence and feasibility assessments
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to senior executives, board members, and external partners
  • Demonstrable knowledge of contemporary, evidence based and fit for purpose Risk and governance frameworks, systems and processes for key functions including enterprise risk management, compliance, and assurance systems
  • Demonstrable knowledge of environmental management practices, understanding of governance functions, systems and processes
  • Experience and ability in building high performance interprofessional teams
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including business partners and industry leaders
