The Role
Reporting to the Estimator Lead – the Senior Electrical Estimator’s responsibilities will include:
- Analysing drawings, specifications, and other documents to determine the scope and complexity of electrical work required for each project.
- Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for electrical materials, equipment, labour, subcontractors, and overheads using various methods such as unit pricing, historical data, or software applications.
- Evaluating the feasibility and profitability of electrical projects based on factors such as site conditions, productivity, project duration, market rates, and client expectations.
- Negotiating with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to obtain the best prices and terms for electrical materials and services.
- Preparing and submitting competitive bid proposals to clients in a timely and professional manner, highlighting the advantages and benefits of choosing the company for the electrical work.
- Collaborating with project managers, engineers, electricians, and other stakeholders to ensure that electrical work is completed according to the specifications, budget, and schedule.
- Updating to reflect changes in material prices, labour rates, market conditions, and project requirements.
- Reviewing completed projects to compare actual costs with estimated costs and identify areas for improvement in future estimates.
- Reviewing schedule of rates quarterly, in liaison with Operations.
- Sign-off on the quality, technical, commercial, and financial aspects of the bid.
Essential Skills / Qualifications / Experience
- Qualification in electrical engineering.
- Minimum four-five years’ experience in a Senior Electrical Estimating / Management role.
- Experience using cost estimating software (WINEST preferable)
- Ability to interpret electrical working drawings for HV Transmission Substations and/or Transmission Lines.
- Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously at the same time whilst meeting tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated good safety record and knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- High level customer relationship management, communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level organisational and presentational skills.
- Advanced level Microsoft Office skills; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated high level of analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised and supervise others.
- Qualifications in Leadership / Management / Project Management / Construction Management / Electrical Engineering / Quantity Surveyor.
- Experience in utilities and/or construction and/or resources industry.
- Senior First Aid Certificate
- CPR Certificate
