Our Cowal Gold Operation is an open-cut, underground and ore processing operation, located 40km Northeast of West Wyalong in NSW.
About the role
Our Cowal Gold Operation is in the process of approvals for to continue Open Pit operations through until the 2030s!
We have a current opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Open Pit in our high-performing Integrated Planning team. Reporting to Geotechnical Superintendent, the purpose of this position is to lead the existing and future Open Pit operations through their leadership and technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
The role has a breadth of responsibility in leading their team to provide geotechnically sound solutions for pit slope stability, waste rock dumps and risk management. The successful candidate will be empowered to establish best practice geotechnical systems to ensure the safe and optimal extraction of our existing and future operations.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced Geotechnical Engineer, skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuade and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience working in large Open Pit environments with a track record in delivering results and meeting customer expectations.
Within the role, you will be integral to the success of the mine and will be excited to build effective management systems to ensure we achieve our goals. It is expected you will have extensive relevant industry experience supported with an appropriate Tertiary qualification.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess a high level of adaptability and responsiveness to change, thriving in a dynamic work environment. Strong budget management skills and the ability to adhere to strict timetables are crucial. You should be self-directed, adept at project management, and capable of initiating and taking responsibility for change to achieve desired results. Proficiency in contractor/consultant management, advanced use of geotechnical software like the Rocscience suite, and expertise in incident investigation methods are key in this role.
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
Previous Open Pit geotechnical experience
Experience in Open Pit design and technical evaluations
Good working knowledge all legislative and regulatory requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a broad range of teams
Excellent relationship building skills and can influence people of all backgrounds
Adaptable with flexibility to operate in a dynamic work environment
Familiarity with mine design software, especially Deswik CAD
Experience supervising and developing a team
