Sterling and Wilson Solar Australia is a successful EPC contractor with a current portfolio of five projects exceeding $1.2bil. We have a pipeline of work in 2023 and a senior role has recently become available for a permanent Senior Estimator. This role is preferably based in Brisbane however Sydney may be considered.
The Senior Estimator will work with the Business Development and Technical team to develop comprehensive, detailed, project capital cost estimates in support of renewable energy projects. Estimations will be based upon latest available cost information and data from internal and external sources and will be presented in a suitable format for use by senior management.
Role Responsibilities
- Review and comprehend typical RFP related documents (i.e. technical schedules, geotechnical data, topographic surveys, engineering specifications, DA, single line drawings, PVsyst reports, Contract, etc.)
- Understanding of construction methodologies and productivities for solar/BESS projects.
- Alignment of estimate preparation with Project schedule.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for all components on a utility scale solar project and/or Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
- Preparation of civil, mechanical and electrical first principles estimate for projects.
- Preparation of full estimates including all direct cost, Indirect cost, risk, contingencies and margin.
- Effectively communicate with subcontractors, vendors, owners and other relevant parties to define project scope and identify potential issues.
- Prepare risk assessment and tender qualifications included in the estimate.
- Understanding and ability to prepare labour rates based on specific project conditions.
- Prepare material with key estimate assumptions and present the estimate outcomes in review meetings for approval by Senior Management.
- Interact with vendors and subcontractors, as well as requesting bids/quotations (as needed).
- Utilize historic project data (i.e. material/equipment costs, manpower, productivity, etc.) to provide indicative EPC estimates.
- Occasionally travel to project sites to conduct site visits, monitor construction, client/vendor meetings, etc.
- Assess risks associated with a specific solar/BESS project and ensure proposal complies with all known and/or foreseeable requirements. Most importantly, that the estimate is accurate.
- Work cross functionally with engineering, construction and procurement teams to ensure requirements for each solar/BESS project are accounted for when bidding.
Qualification & Knowledge Requirements
- Experience in estimating and/or designing utility scale solar/BESS projects is preferable.
- 5 – 7 years of experience in the energy business in an analytical, estimation, budgeting.
- Additional experience in High Voltage infrastructure, wind and hydrogen projects would be consider favourable.
