As our Senior Extension Officer (Beef), you will:
- Negotiate, lead and undertake beef extension activities and projects in central Queensland to enhance the profitability, productivity, competitiveness and environmental sustainability of Queensland's extensive beef industries (e.g. GRASS, NB2, and the GrazingFutures Livestock Business Resilience projects outlined on the Future Beef website).
- Work with beef producers to undertake on-farm scenario analyses to demonstrate herd, land, financial and methane emission outcomes of best practice management. Guide and mentor producers on how to achieve carbon neutrality and how to take advantage of environmental markets including carbon farming, natural capital, reef credits and biodiversity conservation.
- Build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships within DAF; across government; producers and industry; Research and development corporations; industry bodies; Natural Resource Management bodies; universities; and other stakeholders across the state and nationally.
- Ensure that project deliverables are of a high standard and are delivered to influence adoption by industry, and that project management and governance processes are exemplary of a leading RD&E organisation.
- Work with producers to identify, evaluate and implement strategies, including the use of technology to increase business profitability and improve land management outcomes.
- Provide professional leadership in developing high performing teams through mentoring staff, creating measurable and attainable goals, and building strong morale. Refer to the role description for the complete responsibilities and requirements.
- Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Animal, Agricultural or Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution is required.
- A current ‘C' class drivers licence
- Experience and an understanding of the beef industry in Queensland and/or northern Australia.
