Your new role

This is a rare opportunity to join our Investigations team as Senior Financial Investigator on a full-time, fixed term basis to August 2025.  Reporting to the Manager, Investigations, the successful candidate will draw on their extensive forensic accounting and investigative experience to analyse financial documentation and information to identify corrupt conduct and police misconduct.

This position is based in Melbourne, Victoria and will commence from early August 2024.

Duties include:

  • Lead and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team investigating serious corrupt conduct and police misconduct with a focus on identifying and analysing relevant financial and business documents and data.
  • Manage the analysis of public and private sector records to collate and present admissible evidence, including assisting in taking witness statements, and participating in interviews as required.
  • Provide timely and objective advice on financial and business information collection, analysis, and presentation, as well as specialist advice on aspects of accounting, financial analysis, and investigative work.

The operational requirements of Investigations means work hours may be irregular and extended, including weekend work and after hours deployments when required. There is also a requirement for irregular travel within regional Victoria and interstate, including overnight stays. Investigations Unit staff are also required to demonstrate the flexibility to respond to dynamic operational requirements within a reasonable timeframe.

Our requirements / Your skill set

We are looking for candidates with the below experience and capabilities:

  • A tertiary qualification in Business/Accounting (mandatory) which satisfies eligibility criteria for either CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand or equivalent professional body. Membership of such a professional body is highly desirable.
  • Significant experience in forensic accounting and forensic investigation techniques
