The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The IUIH Network Staying Deadly Hubs (Mental Health &AOD hubs) aim to provide comprehensive assessment treatment and assertive outreach support to clients presenting with moderate to severe Mental Health and AOD needs. Working in a unique multidisciplinary care environment as an extension of the IUIH comprehensive model of care, the team provides comprehensive, responsive care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families to optimise health and well-being.
About the Role?
As the Senior General Practitioner for our Staying Deadly Hub, you will be responsible for the provision of GP services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and families accessing Staying Deadly Hubs for their Mental Health and AOD needs, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of medical and health staff, within the operations framework of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled Health Service.
Day to day duties will include:
- Provide clinical services to clients during hours of operation of the service, in keeping with accepted best practice standards.
- Ensure that clinical care is in line with national ethical, legal and clinical standards of general practice care, as well as with regionally endorsed protocols and guidelines for delivery of care across the IUIH and Member Services region.
- Contribute to the maintenance of high-quality information in electronic record systems. Utilise patient information and recall systems to support individual client care and identify population health needs and gaps in service delivery.
- Support referral and timely access to the Staying Deadly Psychiatrist and work collaboratively alongside the Psychiatrist to support optimal medical care for clients
- Work closely and collaboratively with other clinicians and non-clinicians who form part of the Staying Deadly multidisciplinary care team, to ensure clients and families have a smooth care pathway and are well-supported to achieve their goals
- Establish and maintain strong linkages with other health providers in the area to ensure optimum coordination of care and advocacy for the client base
- Oversee the delivery of comprehensive preventive health assessments for clients and provide leadership for the multidisciplinary team in delivery of coordinated care planning for clients with complex health and related care needs
- Support GPs and GP Registrars with mentoring and clinical advice
- Supervise allocated GP Registrars in their training as required
- Contribute to the ongoing design, development and continuous refinement and improvement of the Staying Deadly Hub service
- Provide formal and informal supervision to medical undergraduate and post-graduate trainees undergoing placements.
About You?
- Specialist GP recognition / vocational registration
- MBBS and unconditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Post graduate experience demonstrating Mental Health and / or AOD special interest.
- Mental health Interest: working with client presenting with moderate to complex Mental Health needs.
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
- Eligibility to obtain provider number(s) in the required locations.
