THE OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Racecourse Manager, this permanent full-time position will be responsible for supervising the ongoing site maintenance and management of Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and collaborate with other ATC sites primarily focusing on Gardens and grounds, to ensure they are presented in the best possible condition and contribute to making Rosehill Gardens a premier racing and training facility. DAY TO DAY, THE ROLE WILL:
- Supervise the ongoing site maintenance and management of Rosehill Gardens Racecourse
- Develop and implement work schedules and rosters and manage staff
- Recommend, buy, and cultivate a broad range of plants.
- Conduct soil sampling and water testing and implement fertilising programmes.
- Test and apply chemicals, identify, and mitigate against potential pest and disease risks.
- Set daily, weekly, and monthly priorities regarding garden and grounds maintenance in conjunction with the Leadership team.
- Supervising and motivating a team of staff;
- OH&S provisions relating to manual handling and the handling of pesticides and other chemicals used in the day-to-day management of the Gardens and grounds;
- Mechanical and workshop knowledge to enable interaction with Mechanical Maintenances Staff;
- A Diploma in Horticulture or a related discipline is highly desirable as is a thorough knowledge, experience and understanding of the horticulture and racing industry;
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong analytical skills and the capacity to develop innovative solutions to problems;
- Sound negotiation and influencing skills and the capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships;
- Computer literacy and skills in the use of Microsoft Office;
- Comfortable working in close proximity to horses with the potential risk of exposure to horse incidents, accidents and fatalities;
