Ravenswood Gold has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Indigenous Liaison Officer. In this role you will serve as a key liaison between our organisation, the Birriah, the Bindal, and wider Indigenous community. This is an Indigenous identified role (Birriah preferred).
Ravenswood Gold is a private company owned by EMR Capital (EMR) and SGX listed Golden Energy and Resources Limited (GEAR). EMR and GEAR established a joint venture to acquire, operate and develop the Ravenswood Gold Mine which is located approximately 130km south of Townsville and 90km east of Charters Towers in north-east Queensland, Australia.
Key Responsibilities:
Apprentice and Trainee Support
- Provide support to our Birriah trainees and apprentices for the full employee life-cycle from supporting candidates through pre-employment.
- Collaborate with HR departments to develop strategies for recruiting, retaining and supporting Indigenous employees. Including, mentorship and career development opportunities tailored to the needs of Indigenous employees.
- Supporting leaders and candidates to understand work and training components of their position.
- Operational Support
- Support the Environment, Approvals and Community Team and the Exploration Team to arrange and ensure compliance with cultural clearance procedures for land disturbance, as required.
Relationship Management and Development
- Developing and maintaining relevant networks internal and external to Ravenswood Gold, especially within the Birriah and Bindal communities, Universities, Queensland TAFE and Education Queensland
- Work with the Elders and community leaders to establish and respect cultural protocols within the business environment. Including incorporating traditional practices into meetings, ceremonies, or events held by Ravenswood Gold.
- Provide support to coordinate Cultural Awareness Training.
- Business Improvement
- Provide input and advice on the development and review of company policies to ensure they align with Indigenous cultural values, rights and aspirations.
- Support initiatives aimed at preserving and revitalising Indigenous languages. This might include incorporate Indigenous languages into the signage, documentation and communication materials used by Ravenswood Gold.
- Provide input, advice and support on Community Engagement Programs to build trust and mutual understanding with the broader Ravenswood and Charters Towers community, such as sponsored events and site visits.
- Other tasks as required from time to time.
Qualifications and Skills
- A degree qualification in Indigenous studies, social sciences, community development, or equivalent experience in a similar role.
- Deep respect for and knowledge of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and perspectives, with a commitment to promoting reconciliation and cultural understanding
- An understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, and values.
- This is an Indigenous Identified Role. However, we note that Birriah people are preferred for this position given the mentorship and cultural clearance requirements of this role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders and facilitate dialogue.
