THE ROLE 
The Senior Investment Analyst will help TransAlta’s strategic growth efforts and planning needs for our growth portfolio. This role is responsible for providing analytics and financial modelling to support investment decisions and other strategic opportunities. This is an important role that supports our cross-functional growth team in assessing commercial, operational, and business initiatives with a focus on promoting TransAlta’s growth strategy for Australia.
This is an excellent role for someone who wants to make a significant impact on TransAlta's business growth and its strategy of becoming a power generation company with low costs and low emissions. TransAlta aims to add 2GW of renewables by 2025 and double the renewables fleet again from 2025 to 2030. The successful candidate will join the team that directly supports these goals and has already delivered over $1.4 billion of new renewable growth projects in the past two years.

This position is based at our head office in Perth CBD, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES 
-Performing timely, accurate and comprehensive financial analysis of growth opportunities.
-Creating and updating economic models of existing TransAlta assets
-Preparing internal economic valuations for various initiatives using various project economic metrics including IRR, NPV, ROCE and payback.
-Conducting investment analysis, identifying relevant drivers of business or financial issues, and including sensitivity and scenario analysis.
-Enhancing and continuously improving existing models to support business changes to economic drivers, cost behaviours and overall reliability of results.
-Performing ad hoc analysis, including the creation of financial models and analysis of business trends to support the growth of the business.
-Providing precise evaluations of how investment decisions affect the business.
-Ensuring consistency in approach and output for all financial modelling.
-Collaborating with a growth team to modify and improve analyses as the conditions of a deal evolve.
-Monitoring the energy sector, market and economic conditions and assessing their impact on investment portfolios.
-Providing support where necessary for presentations to senior management
 
ABOUT YOU 
-Diploma/Degree and/or Professional designation in Commerce, Finance, Economics, or business
-Completion of or working toward a CFA is considered an asset.
-10+ years of previous experience in a similar role or valuations or investment analysis.
-3-5 years of experience in the power and electricity industry is an asset.
-Advanced excel skills supported by experience in financial modelling with a solid understanding of project economics and financial analysis.
-Strong business acumen, critical analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
-Ability to handle multiple projects at various stages.
-Strong communication skills, with the ability to develop working relationships with people at all organizational levels.
-Flexible, ability to learn quickly, and ability to adapt to changing work assignments and priorities.
-Demonstrated capacity to understand and balance risk/reward trade-offs in evaluating commercial opportunities.
-Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
-Self-starter who works well independently but who can also work collaboratively in a diverse team towards a common shared goal.
-High attention to detail.
-Effective in a variety of formal presentation settings: one on one, small, and large groups; effective both inside and outside the organization.
