YOUR ROLE
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will ensure that the IT infrastructure and services for Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) and online services of the Victorian Catholic Education Australia Network (VCEA) operate securely, efficiently and effectively and complies with disaster recovery requirements. Additionally, the Senior Infrastructure Engineer will participate in projects to provide new or updated IT services for MACS and VCEA. Develop and maintain documentation of MACS systems and infrastructure whilst contributing to the continuous improvement of services provided.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Designing and Implementing Network & Server Infrastructure: This involves designing, configuring, and deploying network and server infrastructure components such as virtual servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers to meet business requirements.
- Infrastructure Security: Implementing and maintaining network security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and access control lists to protect the organization's network from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Infrastructure Performance Optimization: Monitoring and optimizing infrastructure performance to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability. This may involve identifying and resolving network, SAN bottlenecks, optimizing traffic flow, and implementing SDWAN policies.
- Leveraging automation tools and scripting languages like PowerShell to automate routine server and network administration tasks, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency.
- Cloud Network Integration: Designing, implementing, and managing network connectivity between on-premises infrastructure and Azure cloud services. This involves configuring Azure Virtual Networks (VNets), VPN gateways, ExpressRoute connections, and other networking components to securely extend the organization's network into the Azure cloud environment.
ABOUT YOU
- Experience and Expertise in Network Engineering: Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and managing complex network infrastructure, including a strong understanding of networking protocols, security measures, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Proficiency in Cloud Platforms, Particularly Microsoft Azure: A proven track record of working with cloud platforms, with specific expertise in Azure services relevant to networking, such as Azure Virtual Networks, VPN gateways, ExpressRoute, and network security groups.
- Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting Skills: Strong analytical skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently, using a variety of network monitoring and diagnostic tools. Experience in identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions is essential.
- Project Management and Leadership Abilities: Experience leading IT infrastructure projects from conception to completion, including project planning, resource allocation, and coordination with cross-functional teams. The ability to mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership is also important.
- Communication and Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, collaborating with other IT teams, and providing guidance to team members. The ability to work well in a team environment and interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization is crucial.
