About the Role
The Senior Lecturer (One Health) in the Melbourne Veterinary School, University of Melbourne, will play a pivotal role and will be predominantly engaged in teaching veterinary students and developing curriculum content in Parasitology, Microbiology and/or One Health within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program.
You will also lead high-level research in infectious/parasitic diseases, zoonoses, public health, and One Health, fostering industry connections and securing research funding. Additionally, the role involves providing leadership in research, collaborating within and outside the University, supervising research students, and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education across campuses at Parkville and Werribee, including online platforms.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct a program of research that contributes to the discipline of Parasitology and/or related fields in MVS within the context of One Health.
  • Publish research findings in international refereed journals and present results at seminars, conferences, and meetings.
  • Conduct of research that contributes to the School's strategic research priorities in the broad area of Parasitology and/or related fields.
  • Actively participate in the School's or University's undergraduate and graduate education programs, including the preparation and delivery of lectures, practicals and fieldwork programs in the chosen discipline within the context of One Health.
  • Actively contribute to the development and review of the curriculum, and develop high-quality, innovative subject material and teaching methods/approaches.
Who We Are Looking For
You will demonstrate an aptitude for independent research with a strong publication record and a history of securing external research grants. Additionally, you'll excel in teaching at the university level, including large undergraduate or graduate classes, and possess the capability to develop and deliver relevant discipline subjects at a graduate level. Furthermore, you'll showcase leadership abilities in advancing the School's strategic research objectives at a national level.
You will also have:
  • A Veterinary Graduate with a PhD in Veterinary Science, Veterinary Medicine, Parasitology/Microbiology, One Health or a related area.
  • An established track record of high-quality publications in leading international journals, relative to career opportunities, in infectious/parasitic diseases and/or One Health.
  • A demonstrated capacity to establish collaborations and engage with a broad range of researchers nationally and internationally.
  • Evidence of the ability to attract external research funding from national competitive research bodies and other sources, including industry and philanthropy.
  • Evidence of the ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the field of Veterinary Science/Medicine.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
