About Major Sporting Venues

Like most Australians, Gold Coasters are big sports fanatics and the team at the City of Gold Coast Major Sporting Venues is no different. We take pride in maintaining five (5) major sporting venues across the Gold Coast to ensure they always remain immaculately well-presented and safe.

We inherited several state-of-the art sporting venues as a legacy of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Each venue has its own unique benefit, catering to a diverse range of user groups. Our venues have something for everyone!

About your new role

We’re seeking a dedicated Maintenance and Operations Support Officer to support our Venue Operations Supervisor and help lead our Venue Operations team. The Venue Operations team is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of our venues as well the setup of our Events to ensure optimum utilisation and presentation in preparation for all sporting events.

The position will be accountable for the scheduling of daily, weekly, and periodical tasks across the venues. The position will provide administrative support to the Supervisor of Venue Operations during periods of leave and develop a broad understanding of the business operations and maintenance requirements. The position is based predominately at Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre (Carrara), however, is often required to work across all of the City's Major Sporting Venues which include but not limited to Runaway Bay, Coomera and Nerang.

The position is responsible for looking after a workforce with varying experience and skill levels. Although your hours of duty will be worked predominately between Monday and Friday, you will be employed on an any 5 in 7 roster, which will mean you could be required for occasional weekend work to assist with larger events. You will work on a 9-day fortnight, 36.25hr a week. Your usual hours of duty will fall between 6am–6pm, with occasional out of hours work requirements to cater for event based usage of venues.

Key Deliverables of the position:

  • Lead a small team to ensure all team members are working efficiently and effectively
  • Rostering/scheduling our team of venue duty supervisors, maintenance officers and casual staff
  • Ensuring that the end-to-end operations of events (i.e. set-up and pack down) are undertaken within the given time parameters and in accordance with the City’s Safe Work Instructions
  • Perform administrative functions and provide relief of the Supervisor of Venue Operations during periods of leave
  • Carry out minor repairs across the venue portfolio or scope works required in order to engage specialist contractors
  • Carry out contractor supervision across all disciplines related to facility management and operations, providing feedback as required
  • Ensure safety of patrons, staff, and team members at all times
What you bring to your new role
  • Have previous experience in a maintenance and/or events environment
  • Computer skills across the Microsoft suite along with ability to learn new systems/software
  • Experience scheduling/rostering staff to meet business requirements
  • Experience in a supervisory position
  • Have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to work efficiently in a team environment as well as autonomously.
  • Responsive to workplace changes; ability to adapt to change and work well under pressure
  • Ability to communicate with all stakeholders and always provide a high level of customer service
  • Be dedicated to ensuring safe and functional facilities for our community and user groups
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness; ability to work on your feet and undertake heavy lifting where required
  • Follow and adhere to City policies and WHS legislation when undertaking work
