Job description

The Communications Division provides innovative, best practice strategic communication advice and support,

enabling effective reach to the right people, using the right channel, at the right time. Candidates will ideally

demonstrate experience in both media and social media management, however specialists will also be

considered.

A merit pool is being established for anticipated vacancies over the next 18 months.

Senior Media Advisers confidently lead and support staff to deliver quality media outcomes that enhance and

protect the agency’s reputation. They translate the agency’s strategic direction into clear operational goals, and

work with stakeholders to foster partnerships, provide strategic advice, and manage work output and quality.

Senior Media Advisers exercise a considerable degree of independence, making decisions based on their

specialist professional judgement and consideration of wider agency implications.

The key duties of the position include:

  • Leading the delivery of effective media communication and production of high-quality media and social media content to deadline.
  • Developing and managing key stakeholder relationships, including effectively engaging with media organisations, journalists and media services providers.
  • Researching risks and opportunities to lead, develop, implement and evaluate media content, strategies, products and relevant process guides.
  • Preparing, briefing and advising spokespeople to a high standard, including sensitive matters.
  • Leading and managing staff including overseeing the management of performance, attendance, professional development, and health and wellbeing.
  • Providing expert communication advice and feedback to the agency's executive.
  • Negotiating outcomes, displaying resilience and making expert professional judgements that contribute to media and social media outcomes.
  • Determining strategic direction for the work area aligned to agency objectives and report on outcomes.
