Normanton Hospital is a level two hospital under the Rural and Remote Clinical Services Capability Framework with 16 inpatient beds and the capacity to provide respite/palliative care services. The facility provides 24 hour acute inpatient and accident and emergency care. Outpatient services include general outpatients, nurse and medical led clinics, radiology, pathology, pharmacy and dressing clinics.
Your primary role will be as the sole doctor is providing clinical care for the community. As such you will be seeing patients in three clinical settings: firstly, in a primary care clinic; secondly in the Emergency Department; and thirdly as in-patients on the ward.
Normanton is a small community situated on the banks of the Norman River in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Fishing and prawning industries are the mainstay of the area, along with tourism.
The Traditional Owners of the Normanton area are the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj, and Kurtijar peoples.
Normanton is accessible via a network of sealed and unsealed roads. Some roads may be closed during the wet season between December and March. A sealed airstrip provides year round access to the community.
Requirements
- Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote medicine (FACRRM) or Rural Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP + FARGP) plus
- Procedural skill in either Emergency Medicine (GEM preferred), JCCA, DRANZCOG advanced, Remote Medicine or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.
- Mandatory requirements are an MBBS or equivalent tertiary degree qualification and registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, inc. aged care checks, criminal history and Credentialling for SoCP.
- This is a VPD risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Tuberculosis and COVID-19.
- A 6-month period of probation may apply.
- Ongoing part-time role, 40 hours p.f.
- Base salary ranges between $97.84 - $113.64 p.h (L13-L24).
- Attraction and Retention incentive: 35% of base salary.
- Inaccessibility allowance of $41,400 p.a.
- Motor vehicle allowance of $21,000 p.a.
- Rural and Regional allowance: 15% of base salary.
- 5 weeks p.a. recreational leave with a 17.5% loading/bonus.
- $21,500 p.a. professional development allowance, and 3.6 weeks p.a. leave
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution.
