headspace Upper Coomera
, located on Yugambeh land, is a place where young people can get free and confidential support for their Mental Health, access non-judgemental information and support around drugs or alcohol and access to a GP.


The service, operated by Lives Lived Well a not-for-profit organisation, is an early intervention service aiming to provide youth-friendly, accessible, and effective care, treatment and support to young people aged 12 to 25 who are at risk of developing, or are experiencing, their first episode of psychosis.


We currently have a full time 9-month maternity backfill vacancy for a Senior Mental Health Clinician in our team.


About the role


As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will support our young people by providing therapeutic care to them using our headspace model of care headSTART (a single session model) and evidence-based techniques to support your clients in treatment and recovery.


The headSTART program provides accessible timely care (early intervention) and care coordination support to young people and their families. Our committed and passionate multi-disciplinary team have a rich history of working with young people, their families, and carers to help young people achieve their recovery goals.


In this client facing role, you will provide care coordination, work closely with our external stakeholders including QLD health and attend community events. You will create meaningful engagement opportunities for young people and develop treatment plans to coordinate care for young people and their families within the service. As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will also be responsible for supporting and guiding a team of Mental Health Clinicians in their daily work with young people. You will debrief with them and be available to discuss clinical questions.


Reporting to the Team Leader, as a Senior Clinician you will:

  • Take a lead role in a multi-disciplinary team delivering evidence-based interventions, working collaboratively with young people, their families, and their supports.
  • Provide clinical leadership and consult to our Clinicians and day to day shift co-ordination, role modelling organisational values.
  • Conduct in depth risk assessments, including assessment of suicide risk and violence and provide follow up support, referrals, and treatment.
  • Confidently manage competing clinical and non-clinical priorities in a busy youth Mental Health service.
  • Refer young people as appropriate and provide follow up support.
  • Facilitate and monitor the integration and coordination of care of headspace Southport clients, including participating and facilitating in case review meetings.


The remuneration for these positions will be commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience and will range between gross 49.28 to $51.51 per hour plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits.


About you


You are an engaging, highly self-reflective, and accountable individual with the ability to connect with young clients who are navigating Mental Health challenges and difficult life experiences. You can work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team and utilise the appropriate evidence-based techniques to support your clients.


Additionally, you will also possess the following skills and experience:


Essential: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Counselling or Mental Health Nursing.
  2. Eligibility for membership with the relevant professional body such as AHPRA or the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  3. Extensive experience in youth Mental Health and care coordination is highly desirable.
  4. Proven ability with case formulation and treatment planning including delivering evidenced based intervention. 
  5. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong time management skills and ability to balance competing demands while maintaining your own wellbeing.
  7. Be passionate about early intervention for young people and their families.
  8. Have the ability to actively engage and work collaboratively with young people and their families/significant others to achieve positive recovery outcomes.
