About the role

Reporting directly to the Geology Superintendent, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of ore and provision of timely geological support necessary for achievement of the mine plan.

Your main responsibilities will include:
Providing updated geological interpretations, models and maps to fully optimize ore extraction
Maintaining QAQC for drill hole sampling and mining processes
Developing and designing grade control systems and programs for short- and medium-term planning
Support Metallurgy and Processing on feed governance and geometallurgy to best optimise Low Grade feed sources for Beneficiation Plants
Responsible for the ongoing daily support and mentoring of the mine geology team across multiple sites with in the Southern Middle back Ranges.
A strong systematic approach to mine geology grade control procedures that align with ore extraction best practices and supply chain requirements
Project and contract management experience desirable, related to start ups/ RTO work, in-fill grade control programs, crushing and screening set up, tailings and dredging.
Geotechnical understanding, with delegate support and monitoring set up/ management
Validation and processing of grade control and production data
About your experience

Providing geological input and information to key stakeholders within the Technical Services, Operations and Contractor teams.
You are ideally experienced in mine and exploration geology processes including geological and structural logging, mapping, sampling and modelling. You are confident in your approach and comfortable presenting your findings to operational stakeholders.

You will also possess the following:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Geology, Geoscience or Earth Science
Knowledge and experience working with geological databases
Exposure to 3D modelling software
Strong analytical and effective communication skills

Additional experience required:
Minimum of 5 years in Mine Geology
Iron ore experience
Working within a team

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south west of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Administration functions and ore pelletising and port facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney.

The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process where the business is currently investing to expand and extend the life of the operations.
