Job description

The City of South Perth (the City) is seeking applications from candidates to undertake the position of Senior Nursery Horticulturalist to join the Parks & Environment Business Unit. Located only 4kms from the Perth CBD, the City borders the stunning Swan River on its Northern and Western boundaries, and boasts excellent access to important social, commercial and leisure infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring sound management of nursery operations and support of the City's, as well as other local councils, requirements for plants and street trees in parks, reserves, streetscapes, natural areas and other projects. The Senior Nursery Horticulturalist will actively liaise with all departments and external customers, as well as promote the nursery and seek new clients. To be successful in this position you need to demonstrate; Essential:Recognised qualification, plus experience in plant nursery operations, and/or experience and appropriate qualification in horticultureRecognised qualification and/ or experience to carry out training of staff on site (i.e. trainees)General knowledge of herbicides, pesticides, growth enhancers, and other chemical applications suitable for use within a plant nursery.Skilled at identifying and propagating Native West Australian PlantsDemonstrated ability to lead a small work team to achieve high level outcomesGood literacy and computer skillsSound knowledge of health and safety requirementsCurrent 'C' Class West Australian Driver's LicenceDesirable:Leadership and Management training and / or qualificationMarketing qualification and/or related experiencePrevious experience in a commercial production plant nurseryWorking with Children CheckFirst Aid CertificateThis permanent position is a level 4 which attracts a salary of $70,431 - $82,109 gross per annum plus superannuation.
