Western Autistic School requires a Senior Occupational Therapist. Full-time or part-time, time fraction negotiable. There is flexibility for this position to be part time (Minimum 3 days), and there is strong potential for this position to become ongoing in the future
Extensive experience (3+ years) working in autism or a school-based service will be highly regarded. Salary is negotiable dependent on experience. We are looking for an OT with high levels of initiative and drive that can support a growing team and develop an effective OT service within our school. Depending on your time fraction, duties will be prioritised to fit your manageable workload.
The position is based in Laverton. The campus is in close proximity to the freeway for easy access.

The Role:
The Occupational Therapy service at Western Autistic School is a consultancy service for teachers. The model is currently a referral service which encompasses assessment, analysis, reporting, individual/group work, education and program delivery advice.
There is flexibility for this position to be part time (Minimum 3 days), and there is potential for this position to become ongoing in the future.
Main duties include:
- Travel assessments and travel management plans,
- Case conferences for complex behaviour and related assessment, analysis and reporting,
- Responding to referral enquiries from staff to help students participate in the educational process, particularly with regard to regulation and sensory processing,
- Deliver professional learning to staff regarding regulation, sensory processing, motor skills, activities of daily living.
- Supervision of early career therapists.
Key Selection Criteria:
1. Extensive experience in the Application of Occupational approaches and methods related to service delivery and enablement in Sensory Processing Disorder and Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
2. Ability to deliver a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to students and families in a specialist educational environment. Service encompasses assessment, analysis, reporting, individual/group work, education and program delivery advice.
3. Demonstrated capacity to work as part of a collaborative professional team, including mentoring and supervising less experienced therapists.
4. Experience in the design and delivery of professional learning in the areas of Occupational Therapy for teachers and other educational professionals, with a commitment to professional learning for both self and others.
5. Highly developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated sensitivity to family issues in special education.
